Alexia Gonzalez

Já, Marfiza cruel, me não maltrata
Saber que usas comigo de cautelas,
Qu'inda te espero ver, por causa d'elas,
Arrependida de ter sido ingrata.

Com o tempo, que tudo desbarata,
Teus olhos deixarão de ser estrelas;
Verás murchar no rosto as faces belas,

The poem shows how the poet feels after being left lonely. He expresses his feelings by writing to the person who made him feel the ways he does.

The speaker says he was ungrateful to the person he is writing about. He also says that he should just be happy and live their life because they are getting old.

Figurative language: This poem includes symbolism. He uses examples like "eyes will cease to be stars" and "golden braids turn into silver", by saying this he is empathizing that the women will turn old. By becoming older, he states "enjoy it while it last" meaning, live and do not worry so much about the disappointments. Even if he or she has messed up in the past, put the issues away. To forgive him, so life can be peaceful.

Form:The way the poet organized this poem is by starting off by saying “sorry” in a way, to making the person feel back up again in different stanzas. The poet tells the person "do not mistreat me"  because he knows how it isn't always going to be the same.

The tone of this poem goes from explaining how everything changes in age, to how feelings should also be changed due to getting older. He also shows how he is worried that the person the poem is about wont listen to his reasons.

The theme of this poem is to live your life to the fullest because things change in life. It doesn’t matter how you are feeling or the consequences get back up and appreciate the moment.
